My 'Top 10 Tips' for someone who is new to London

Written by Sophie Evans on Wednesday, 28th November 2018

You've landed on the Capital Living website, which means it's highly likely that you are looking for somewhere new to live and could quite possibly be, new to the Big Smoke. I thought I'd put together a short list of survival tips for you until you find your feet.

1. Download a tube map app to your phone, much simpler and more efficient than being that person who is looking at the actual map trying to work out where each line goes. It doesn't need to be overwhelming so don't over complicate it.

2. Try to go with the general walking flow on the tube rather than getting in everybody's way. At first you'll think wow everyone walks so fast and before you know it, it will be you.

3. Download City Mapper for the easiest way to manoeuvre around the City.

4. Watch out for cyclists - they're always whizzing around faster than you anticipate.

5. Throw yourself into everything that you can and experience as much as possible.

6. Find your local park and pub garden, they will be your favourite places on those long Summer evenings.

7. Visit all the of the tourist attractions when you arrive, otherwise once you start to settle in you will never get round to it.

8. Don't walk while using your phone, you're just slowing the pace of the people behind you and that's annoying.

9. Look at the yellow lines on the underground and stand where the paint has faded – that's where the doors open.

10. Relax - you'll feel at home in no time, most people were new to London at some point. And most importantly, enjoy it - you moved to London for a new adventure so embrace it.
